Decorative Cushions Blog

My site of my favourite pretty decorative cushions

Pillows come in all kinds of colors and fabrics. You can even
make them from placemats and napkins. The trick is to have a pillow form. Either an old pillow that you don't like any more or a new form from some fabric place like Walmart or JoAnn's. Solid, print, wool, fleece, chennille, silk. All good choices!

Or will they lump up?
What other things could one recycle as pillow stuffing?

*Clean socks, of course!

Old tights or pantyhose and old socks work well. Socks make a heavier pillow, of course, than do pantyhose or tights.

When I used socks as pillow stuffing, I was making a draught roll. I put it against my window at night to keep the cold draught from seeping through and freezing me out. To make sure they don't lump up, stuff your pillow as full as you can without splitting the seams.

One other thing you can reuse to fill decorative pillows is old decorative pillows. Get the ugly ones from a thrift store (they're cheaper and no one else wants them as is) and rip out the stuffing and use it.

If the pillows have removable covers on yes you can wash them but only if they are not tapestry pillows, refrain from washing these types of pillows as they will tend to fall apart and when washing pillows with removable covers wash in cold water and Baby shampoo only use about half cup to a small load in your washer if you hand wash these covers use about three tablespoons of Baby shampoo in cool to warm water, best dried hanging in warm room near heat do not put in dryer, unless directions on tag says it is okay to do so Good Luck !

Cheap decorative pillows for a teen's room?

Posted by Sally on Feb-28-2009

Hey.
I need 1 cheap (10 bucks or less) bright orange accent pillow for my bed. Leave links showing pics of pillows for me to look at. thanks. And no bigger than a 15'' square!

I went to the dollar store to find my cousin a little present, and they have these pretty cool pillows for 10 bucks. They're about 2 feet long.. it's one of those tube looking pillows. they had all sorts of colors and the kid loves it.
the dollar store i got it from was family dollar. I tried finding a pic of it online, but i can't. just go look at your local store, i guess.

Do the seams need to be different in size?

Turn the pillow case inside-out and sew the zipper in first.

I am trying to find something on the web saying which is better……..when displaying pillows in a retail store is it better for the customer/employee if the pillows or booked shelfed or if they are faced out?

how are u gona sell if customers cant even see the decoration on the pillows? so naturally, theyd have to be "book shelfed" but "faced out"…or better yet, just have them "book shelfed" WITH a bedroom display of sorts just next to the shelf. this way, customers can even get some idea on how they can work their bedroom design around the decorative pilows; ie, matched with curtains, carpets or whatever. and then when they're ready to buy, they could just walk up the shelf and grab the pillows where they are "book shelfed".

how can i make decorative pillows?

Posted by Sally on Jan-31-2009

I want them in Tiffany blue and Brown for the living room, but everywere I go they are sooooo expensive! I rather make them myself. BUT I need help making them!
sorry, Tiffany blue is like Sky blue

pillows are easy to make. If you want a square pillow decide what size you want and add a quarter inch seam allowance. sew them wrong side out on three sides. On the fourth side sew from each corner about one-third of the way leaving an opening in the middle that your hand can fit. Turn it right side out and taking pillow fill bought from your sewing dept. such as wal-marts. Use a handful of stuffing loosing it up and stick into the corners and continue till the fullness you find comfortable. Then sew shut the opening with needle and thread of matching color of the fabric. Poof! there's your pillow!!!

Hello, twas thinking of shopping at T.J. Max and/or Marshall's for a blanket throw and a classy lil' decorative pillow for a couple in the family.
Does this sound good for someone who already has it all [almost] except for true happiness?

Why not? As look as it is "classy"…
